Accurix Scribe
The use of AI (artificial intelligence) during patient consultations
Prudhoe Medical Group with effect from the 7th April will be using a new software to help with notetaking during patient consultations. This tool listens to the conversation between you and your doctor or other clinician (with your permission) and provides an instant summary of the consultation. The doctor then reviews this summary, editing it for accuracy if necessary, and then saves it in your notes as a record of the consultation. This is intended to help us focus more on your clinical care and to spend less on typing notes during your visit.
How it works:
- What we record: We only record the conversation during your consultation; this helps us create an accurate summary of the visit.
- What happens next: After the consultation the tool generates a summary using advanced technology. Your doctor will carefully check the summary before adding it to your medical record
- Your privacy: The recording is deleted immediately after your consultation when saved to your record. A written transcript is stored for 30 days, as a reference, in case of any queries from the clinician or the patient before being permanently deleted. All data is securely stored with the supplier Accurx, meeting all requested EU safety standards. The practice already uses Accurx as a trusted provider for its patient text messaging service.
- Your Choice: Before each consultation, we will always ask if you are happy for the conversation to be records for this purpose. If you are not, we will take notes manually instead. You can also ask that the recording is stopped or deleted at any time during or after the consultation.
The Benefits:
- Saving clinicians’ time: Freeing up the clinician’s time which would otherwise have been spent on typing notes. If gives them more time with patients.
- More accurate, thorough & standardised records: A record of your discussion is available as soon as the consultation is finished. It is less likely that information will be missed and not added to the clinical record
- Improved patient/doctor interactions: Clinicians can fully engage with patients during the consultation, improving patient experience & help build better patient/doctor relationships.
